Functions

The Temple of the Emerald Buddha was built in 1782. It was the home of the Thai King, the Royal court, and the administrative seat of government for 150 years. It is definitely Bangkok's most famous landmark. There was also the Thai War ministry, state departments, and the mint inside. There is an outer court and an inner court of the temple. The outer court housed the civil admisinstration, the army and the treasury. The central court was. The King's royal consorts and daughters lived in the inner court. Only two of the courts were open for the public, the outer court, and the central court.
